Week 20: A Friend #2
They say good friends are hard to come by. However, I felt that it was almost fate when I met my friend Susan. It was the beginning of my first semester of college, and one of my friends was giving me a lift back to my dorm. Susan had a night lab, and had called our mutual friend to see if she could give her a lift. Her dorm was literally right next to mine, and that’s when I met Susan. She was a nursing major coming back from her Human Anatomy lab, and on that night I just so happened to be getting a lift back.
We had no common classes, no other common friends, and weren’t even involved in similar activities when we met. Six years later, both of us have graduated from college, and things are far from how they were back then. Susan had completed changed her major and career path, and I had even joined a sorority (something that was unheard of my freshman year.)
Life has thrown us so many curve balls since we’ve met. We’ve gone through horrible breakups, moves, family illnesses, engagements, celebrations, new business pursuits, and so much more. Through the good and the bad, I know she will always be there for me. I remember even seeing a Snapchat of her scrolling through my blog when it first launched! I know no matter where in the world we are, I can always count on her when I need a friend.
I’m so grateful for the day she decided not to walk home from her lab. Had it not been for that, I don’t know if we would have ever met. I’m also grateful that despite what life has thrown at us, we still manage to stay so close. Good friends may be hard to come by, but when they do come into your life, they’ll be there for a lifetime.
