Week 23: Favorite Physical Trait
Love is the absolute last word I would use to describe my hair. In fact, I’ve think I could count on my fingers how many times I’ve said I love my hair. My natural hair is frizzy, voluminous, and is wavy in some areas and straight in others. For years I used product, styling tools, and just about anything I could think of to tame the disaster that was my hair. I used to straighten it every day during high school and use styling mousse if I thought about trying to wear it curly.
Even now, if I want to wear my hair “natural,” I have to braid it when it’s wet to make it style properly. I don’t usually like my hair without product or thrown up in a messy bun. However, the first time I saw my perfect little curls everything changed for me. It was the first time I appreciated my hair in it’s close to natural state.
My hair is not always this delightful picture I’ve painted for you, not even when it’s braided! I’ve taken my hair out of the braid before to find one side curly and one straight! It’s like my hair has a mind of it’s own! But as I’ve begun to grow out my hair, I’ve found a new love for it!
Since my hair is so thick, the longer it gets the better it looks! The weight of my hair pulls it down making the curls light and fluffy, but not too poofy. It took me a long time to finally appreciate the hair I have, and I can’t wait to see how it evolves as it continues to grow!
