Week 29: Your Favorite Memory
Over the course of nearly 24 years, I have had some incredible experiences and made wonderful memories. Despite all that, choosing my favorite one for this post was a no-brainer, and actually didn’t take me more than a second to decide. So, here it goes.
Mr. Penny Pincher and will have been dating for seven years in November (can you believe it?) and for many of those years I had been hinting that I was ready for the next big thing. We have never went all out on a dating anniversary before, so we discussed a short weekend cruise to celebrate. This would be our first cruise just the two of us, and I was so excited for it!
Since it was a belated 5 year anniversary trip, we went all out. We upgraded to the balcony room and even had a towncar drive us to and from the airport. For those of you who have never done a weekend cruise before, you should! It was a blast! I ended up winning 100+ tickets at the arcade, we went on many water slides, and enjoyed onboard activities such as Deal or No Deal and bingo.
During the final night of our cruise, I had “talked” Mr. Penny Pincher into taking professional photos with a photographer the ship. This is a big deal since he rarely enjoys getting his picture taken. While we were finishing up our game of Deal or No Deal, he went to speak with the photographer to make sure they would still be taking pictures when we were ready. Oblivious as I was, I just let him go without thinking twice. Low and behold once we were finally there and taking pictures, he had planned to take them all along!
Mid photo shoot, he dropped down on one knee and pulled a hand-made ring box shaped like a Yoshi egg (my one request… he remembered!) out of his pocket. There stood my late mother’s ring inside of a Yoshi egg, and my handsome boyfriend down on one knee. It took me less than a second to say yes and I was overjoyed in tears! Every moment of this experience has been ingrained in my head since it happened, and I replay it over and over again. He did everything so perfectly! From sneaking the ring into our shared carry on bag without me knowing, to planning the photo shoot, and even keeping it all a secret from me for an entire year!
While I have so many wonderful memories, and believe me I could go on and on about some of the best ones, this one still leaves me at a loss for words. With our wedding just a few more months away I find myself thinking back to this day, remembering how he kept such a big secret from me for so long, and being completely surprised and happier than I’ve ever been when it happened.
Hello, Mr. Penny Pincher here! I’m so glad this story made it onto the blog to be shared with you all! The whole process from getting the ring, to making the box, setting up the photo shoot, and keeping it all secret for so long was one of my favorite things I’ve ever done for Lindsey. It was hard, but so worth it to have pictures that will last a lifetime, and memories that will last even longer.
