I’m all about saving money whenever and wherever I can. Seriously, we don’t even rent Redbox movies if we don’t have a code because I am unwilling to pay full price for something as small as a Redbox. Even though our household is striving to live a more frugal lifestyle, there a few things we simply won’t skimp on. Here are 6 things I am unwilling to skimp on.
- Toilet paper
I care about how my toilet paper feels. There, I said it! You are not saving money if it takes you twice as much toilet paper every time you use the bathroom. My personal preference is Charmin Ultra Strong. There are tons of great deals out there and even the chance to get some brands for free. However, I would rather pay more for trusted, quality products. Even on something as simple as my toilet paper.
I am extremely picky when it comes to my makeup. I have oily skin that breaks out easily, so not just any product will do. I work in an office all day so I want to be sure that my makeup will last all day. I also only use makeup products that use sustainable palm oil or are palm oil free so this limits down my choices even further. This is a personal preference, but if you want to know more about my reasoning, check out this article on why should avoid palm oil. My favorite eye shadow is hands down Urban Decay’s Naked Palettes. There are so many colors to choose from, and the really do last all day. I don’t even have to use a primer first. For the rest of my makeup, I primarily use Maybelline cosmetics.
3. Cat litter
One area that I will never skimp on is my cat Midnight. She is very particular about her cat litter. Most people say she’s just a cat she’ll get over it, but she won’t. She’s refused to use her litter box for an entire day because she was discontent with the litter choice. We use Fresh Step cat litter, she is content with the choice and it works a lot better than other brands. Occasionally, I can find coupons for a few dollars off (these are rare) and her litter is NEVER on sale. Whenever I find a good deal and have a coupon, I will stockpile cat litter for her. I’d rather keep my cat happy than save a few bucks by getting a cheaper brand.
4. Cat food
Since the day we got her, we’ve been feeding Midnight Authority cat food. When we first brought her home from the Humane Society, I could tell she was nervous around anything that reminded her of the Humane Society (including the food). I ended up giving the rest of the food to my roommate’s cat and going to Petsmart to buy her new food. While going through the aisles, I came across Authority cat food which was on sale and a brand I recognized. She LOVES chicken flavored cat food, and it had dandruff control which she needed. We usually spend about $25 on a giant bag, which will last her about 6 months. I put as much care into Midnight’s food as I would my own.
5. Laundry detergent
I have always bought Tide detergent. While I’m happy to experiment with different name brands to find the best product, I will always reach for my Tide Pods. Since I began my first load of laundry, I have been using Tide detergent. Clothes are expensive, and the last thing I want to do is ruin all of my clothes because I used a bad detergent. Plus, there are always coupons out there for Tide, and I don’t have to worry about my clothes during each wash.
6. Garbage bags
We live on the third story of our apartment complex, so when the BF goes to take the trash out in the mornings I want to make sure the bag will not break. We buy Glad Forceflex trash bags and we’ve never had one break on us. My favorite scent is lavender, but lemon is also pleasant.
