What was your financial wake up call? For me, it was when I realized how much money we were spending at restaurants.
We were spending over $600 on eating out for lunch at work, or eating out for dinner when we had plenty of stuff to eat at home. That $600 is in addition to any money we spent on groceries for the week.
I looked at our expenses at the end of the month, and was blown away all of the little expenses added up. For the next three months, we worked to completely revamp our budget and spending habits.
If you’ve had your financial wake up call but have no idea what to do, you’re in luck! For the next four weeks, I’ll share with you my tried-and-true methods of tracking your expenses, creating a budget, sticking to your budget, and maximizing your savings.
I am passionate about saving money, and I want to share my money saving techniques with you. This week I was $100+ under budget for groceries, and I didn’t use ANY coupons! I couldn’t get these kinds of savings without utilizing my budget and tracking my expenses.
When my boyfriend and I first moved into our apartment, we had no budget and were reckless with our money. Candy runs happened every week, and I can’t begin to tell you how many cat toys I bought that sit unused. She’ll walk right past them to play in a cardboard box, but I’d still buy dozens of toys for her every week.
I’m not going to lie to you, I was terrible with money the past 22 years of my life. Don’t believe me? Ask my dad, he’ll tell you stories of how I blew my paychecks faster than I could earn them.
If you think you can just snap your fingers and have all your finances under control, think again. We started tracking our expenses awhile ago, and it has taken me 3 months to finally master my budget. I’ve made so many mistakes with my money in the past, but it’s because I made those mistakes that I can lead you down the right path.
My system works, and I promise after you make these small changes in your life, you’ll feel more in control of your money from the very first day.
